Facilities

The laboratory and facilities are belong to Earth Materials Science Group (4G).

High-Pressure and High-Temperature Apparatuses

Diamond Anvil Cells(DAC)

The sample is compressed between two opposed diamond anvils which can generate quite high pressure > 50 GPa. There are many kinds of cell type in our lab.; Cramp type, Symmetric type, Mao-Bell (lever) type.

Resistance-Heating Diamond Anvil Cells

The sample can be heated with a few hundred of degrees Celsius under high pressures by combining with a resistance-heating coil adjusted on the diamond anvil cell.

Other Experimental Equipment for DAC

A spot welder and precise drilling machines for drilling the sample hole in the gasket.

Piston Cylinder Type Apparatus with a Resistance Heating

A piston cylinder with a hand press. We use it for synthesizing large volume samples under pressure conditions up to 1.5 GPa, 350 ℃.

Characterization facilities

Micro-Raman spectrometer

The diode laser (532 nm) is used as an excitation light source. Use for obtain Raman spectra of materials at ambient condition and at high-pressure and high-temperature conditions combined with DAC. Also, ruby fluorescence spectra are measured for pressure determination.

Ultraviolet Visible Absorption Spectroscopy (UV-vis)

Use for the measurements of absorption spectroscopy of solutions and solids from ultraviolet to visible spectral regions.

GC/MS

Use for the measurement on mass spectrometry of organic materials.

FT-IR

Use for the measurements of infrared spectra. Micro IR spectra on high-pressure conditions are measured combined with the cramp type DAC.

※We also use Synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurement system on KEK-PF BL18-C, neutron diffraction measurement system on J-PARC MLF PLANET beam-line.
